Christmas Program Volunteering

It's that time again. We have the privilege of helping many families that are struggling during the holidays and especially during this tough economic time.

We need your help to make this event run smoothly. The Small World Board of Directors has asked us to make a few changes this year to speed the process, insure the integrity of the mission and accountability to our donors and sponsors.

Volunteering for this program requires a commitment. We are expecting to help over 1,200 angels again this year!! Our hope, for the most efficient and expedient system, is to ask 40 volunteers to commit several hours a day, during the week, for two weeks (or if you finish the row in less than 2 weeks then you’re done). Lunch is provided each day (usually by one of our volunteers who loves to cook) so you can come in the morning after you drop kids at school and stay as long as you like.

The ideal situation is for 2 volunteers to work together on a row of 100 Angel bags. You work through that row's Binder assessing the contents of each bag listing missing items on a "Wish List" and pulling excess items to donate to the Store. Once a bag is complete, then you will tag it and no one should need to touch it again.

If you have volunteered before you know that auditing the bags is the most time consuming but also the most important part of the process. Last year we had lots of volunteers but very few who could commit the time to complete a row. We found that it's difficult to have new volunteers come in and take over where someone else left off. Items on the "Wish List" aren't followed up on and that personal attachment to "your" angels loses intensity.
